Finally, a '69 in the right color

If you've already read the page for Ghia #7, you know of my desire to 'replace' my old '66 with a similar '69.  I bought the Cyrpress Green coupe last year with the intention of making it look like my Bermuda Blue '66, by repainting it Chrome Blue, fitting it with 10-slot wheels and other cosmetic touches.  But it was always obvious to me that a Chrome Blue '69 would've been a better choice for a starting point.

I have had a WTB ad on The Samba for nearly two years now, looking for a Chrome Blue '69 coupe and one finally became available  earlier this year.  The car was located in NJ and was in pretty good shape for the $4,000-or-so they were asking for it.  But after a week or 10 days, without warning, the guy unexpectedly sold it to another buyer in Eastern Europe.  He didn't even give me a chance to increase my offer!

Several weeks after the NJ car was gone, I received an e-mail blast from Mike Gregory at House of Ghia in Salem, OR.  Mike posted a link to a very clean '69 coupe then on Portland Craigslist.  It was nearly original and in the highly desired Chrome Blue.

I jumped on it!  I emailed Mike within minutes and asked him to go look at the car for me.  He made an appointment with the seller for the following week.  Because the appointment was nearly a week in the future, I decided I would have time to send Mike a check made out to the seller for a deposit.

I wrote a check for $1,000.00 payable to the seller, but sent it to Mike with specific instructions on making an offer.  Mike called the day before the viewing appointment and told me he received the check.
The next day, he called from the seller's house and after some discussion with Mike and Tommy, we agreed on price and terms and I instructed Mike to give Tommy the check.

The balance of the money was wired to an escrow service and a shipping company was hired.  Now, I'm just waiting for Tommy to call and say the car has been picked up and the truck is on it's way East!
